Things to think about
Lighting: I'm a natural light photographer with a long love of sunsets and the way light reflects off the scenery on a normal day. I use natural light until the sun goes down, only then, will I shoot using flash. I leverage the natural light because I want to capture the mood of the moment, not artificially alter it. If you are planning on having photos taken outdoors between 10 am and 3 pm, please ensure there is a space away from direct sunlight. Midday light is extremely harsh creating dark shadows under the eyes and nose, as well as constantly squinting. Do not sweat if it is cloudy because a cloudy day is a perfect day! When is the best time to take outdoor photos then you say? The golden soft light I leverage is just before and during sunset. Depending of the time of year, these photos can be taken is 60-20 minutes just before sunset.
Inside Photoshoots: Every shoot tells a story of the day and the perfect start is to prepare. When it comes to lighting please consider capturing moments in rooms with large windows. Windows should have enough light coming through to light the room. Also to think of the wall color. Light colored walls will be your friend! Colored walls cast unflattering light so planning in advance will help achieve best options.
Be YOU: I want your photos to be flawless. I like to set up poses as well as have everyone act natural and interact. During the shoot, I will be constantly taking photos, throwing ideas out there, as well as taking in ideas we previously discussed to create a smooth experience.
For wedding photoshoots, things for me to capture that someone should be assigned to assist me with capturing the "details" are; wedding dress, shoes, garter, jewelry, purse, perfume, personalized hanger, wedding invitation, rings, bouquet, note to/from groom, gift to/from groom, handkerchief, sentimental items, anything else meaningful to preserve the moment of the day. Also, it takes a lot of time to gather family for photos. Pre-assign a family member or friend who knows the guest to help gather in the appropriate photo. If you provide me with a list of family groups you would like to have photographed together is also very helpful!
